A Loving Message

To all my followers! My husband of 40 years suffered a stroke Friday afternoon. He was life flighted to Ann Arbor and is in critical condition. I am writing to share because if you are a praying sort your prayers would be appreciated. Also I did not want to lose you as my friends and followers. I know my time online will be limited as I focus all my LOVE and ATTENTION on my husband. You have brought such joy to my life. I love creating and sharing. My business, FB page, and Blog are more than a job. They are a passion and bring me great joy.

  4. My sincere and heart-felt prayers are being sent your way. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and would be there helping out in a moment if I didn't live in Nevada. Just take your day hour-by-hour. I started out working 10+ years in the hospital before I switched over to the schools and when I was counseling families, I think it is just natural to want to know "When will he ... walk, talk, swallow, dress himself, etc.?" Because none of us can predict the future, we may have an idea based on where the stroke occurred in his brain, but honestly everyone's recovery can be so variable (a lot can depend on their age and level of health and function prior to the stroke), so try not to think about tomorrow, next week, next month or even next year (easier said than done), and just try and focus on the here and now. Maybe even consider keeping a daily Gratitude Journal (yes, I said gratitude) because may every hour or every day you will see something positive - "I'm grateful that he is in less pain, I'm grateful that he was more alert today, I'm grateful for the CNA, nurses, and therapists who display such compassion and answer all my questions." You get the drift. Your mindset is very important. Also speak to your husband as if he were the person he was before the stroke. Personally, if that were my family member, I would tell all of my friends and family that there will be NO crying in my loved one's hospital room. If they want to cry, they need to do it out in the hall. All my best, Roberta

    1. I know you are an angel! I can't tell you how I needed to hear that today.
Each day God has sent angels to carry me along this journey. I have been in awe.
The biggest miracle is that even though John remembers very little he remembers me, his sons, and my father (grandfather to our sons). He keeps saying to me I can't remember! I reply to him...you remember what is important...those who LOVE and need you most! Again thank you!!
